The point of this diary is to let you all know about an excellent web page that provides a great way to track votes in the NC Primary Election. This election is of special importance to progressives, since it includes voting against the infamous Amendment 1 (anti-equal marriage amendment to the state's Constitution). Here in NC, we dems are also voting for our next gubernatorial candidate.
The website with the voting statistics is found at a page called Civitas Vote Tracker, through the "Carolina Transparency Project." I know, I know, it's a right-wing site (see below). I feel a bit squeamish even giving them hits.
But...
The site tracks NC votes by county, by party, by gender, by city, etc. It updates daily.
Here's the site--check it out for yourselves.

The struggle against the amendment is an uphill battle. The great news is that so far, as you can see, dem voters outnumber republicans (which is generally true for early voting down here). Other good news is that the liberal parts of the state are outvoting the conservative parts by a wide margin to date. To see this, under "Mailing Address City," you'll note that by far the top cities voting are three progressive bastions--Durham, Asheville, and Chapel Hill.
I almost hate to pass the site on, since it's brought to you by the infamous Locke Foundation, paid for by Art Pope, NC's own version of the Koch Brothers. (if you want to know more about Pope, read Jane Mayer's excellent essay on him in the New Yorker of October 2011, "State for Sale" at
