Welcome to Thursday Coffee Hour. This is an open topic thread so grab something to eat and drink and sit down and tell us what is on your mind. I thought today we could talk about one of my favorite things in the whole world, books.
I keep my books until sometimes they are falling apart. I always reread my favorite books. My original copies of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings have been taped and glued many times in an effort to keep them together. I finally bought new copies of each but I still keep the old ones. Some of the books I love like the Judge Dee mysteries aren’t as easy to find any more so I carefully tape and glue those back together too. My Mary Stewart mysteries are pretty beat up looking also. I was fortunate in being able to replace some of the older ones with used copies in fairly good condition when I couldn’t repair the originals any more. One of my most often read books and the one that looks loved is The Little Prince. I have it in English, French and German.
I learned my love of reading from my Dad. I took a lot of Dad’s books after he passed away. I need to go through the rest of them when I go back up to Indiana next month. I have always been a reader. I read much more then I watch television or go to the movies. I don’t think a day goes by that I don’t sit down and read often with a kitty on my lap. I don’t like getting rid of books once I buy them. There are a few that I just couldn’t finish that got given away but that is a theme for another diary.
How about you? Do you have books that look like well read old friends?
