I hear you. It's the election season. Tamp down the criticism of the Drone President. Remember “Drones Save Lives.” (Oops, sorry.)
I get it. God forbid we say shit that could be picked up by our opponents like all the shit the Republicans said in the 400,536,000 debates they had the last year. Talk about political porn.
No, you're right. Shhhhh. Let's freeze time. Let's freeze the debate. Let's not nudge the President toward peace, love and understanding. We have the Republicans right where we want them preaching war, hate and ignorance.
I get it. But I don't agree.
These are the times that try men's souls. The interesting times that people in boring times wish us to have. Well, hey, they can have them.
I recognize I am on the fringe politically here. I am not a “good” Democrat. In the political spectrum I find myself trending toward leftist-libertarianism, but who believes government has an important role to play in the regulation of greed and protecting the rights of people to be idiots if they choose. I believe in the liberty of the individual mixed with a responsibility to community. But hermits have rights as well.
I believe Obama is not the lesser of two evils, but the only rational choice in the face of Republicans who in order to scrabble together a winning coalition have made devilish political pacts with dangerous morons who, left in charge of the world, would certainly destroy it.
But there are certain issues – Imperial Wars of Aggression and the enslaving international banking system – which must be our priority to challenge and change if we want to survive as a nation and as a global humanity.
How can one reasonably discuss these critical issues, which the Democratic Party, in bed with the War Machine and the Money Power, has failed to address?
Where does loyalty to Party stop when faced with intransigence on critical issues?
Do we really think the President needs “space” to get reelected so then he can make a Sea Change? Does anyone really believe that?
Because that is what is needed: A Sea Change of policy as regards War and Finance. Unless I have amnesia weren't both houses of Congress controlled by Democrats after the 2008 election? Didn't the President have a mandate?
And it was all milked down and squandered in a foolish attempt at bi-partisanship. Bi-partisanship with irrational loons and fiscal incompetents. And it cost the Democrats in 2010.
I believe the President will win reelection in a landslide. The Republican candidate is a vapid, coddled, blow-dried, bobble head who makes George Bush look like a strategic genius. He can't win the hearts and minds of the GOP base. He won't win the swing because he can't make the case for change because there is nothing he would really change. I think the crazies would rather have the opportunity to froth at the mouth toward the President for another four years than surrender their hate to a deer-in-the-headlights.
So given all that, I believe it is important for those of us who believe in Peace and Prosperity to continue to make our case. Enough Neoliberal/neoconservative foreign interventions. Enough of the ridiculous machinations of bankers who are out to own everything and enslave the world through debt which must be repaid because it the Holy Writ of a false religion.
The President doesn't need “space” he needs pressure to do the right thing.
Because continued world-wide war against enemies we create through empire and continued bankruptcy, borrowing trillions to pay banks back money they created like a rabbit out of a hat – an illusion - is wrong, wrong, wrong.
So, thank you for letting me say my piece. And I promise I will endeavor to not embarrass all the good Democrats here who believe in this President. I will not call the President names. Anymore.
But, “Silence in the face of evil is evil itself. God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act”
War is evil. Slavery is evil.
I will not be silent.
