I don't have much to say here, really, except that I find it highly disturbing that our country has come to a place where "We Killed This Guy" is a campaign slogan.
What have we come to? All we have to say for ourselves is that we hunted down and killed someone?
I know, I know. He was a really bad man.
We can argue the morality of killing him. Whatever.
But, seriously. Our oh-so-exceptional country is trying to figure out who is the best person to lead us all out of the economic travesty that we're mired in; while we struggle to maintain any semblance of real democracy; while our civil rights are being eroded every day; while we have no real application of justice; while the planet upon which we depend is being transformed into an environment which will not sustain human life; which.. well.. you get the idea.
What the frack kind of civilized society has their leading politicians bragging about killing people?
I am sickened by this.
Reaching the point where you have to kill people is not a marker of success. Its an indicator of absolute failure of humanity. That people wanted, or want, to kill us is not a mark of jealousy or mere depravity. It also isn't the beginning of a story. Its not like the we've been minding our own business for 250 years just to suddenly wake up with these psychotic people wanting to kill us for no reason.
We can't claim to be a world superpower and then claim that we couldn't possibly have impacted the world in such a way as to generate what ends up happening. If we are or were the Super Power then we are super-accountable.
When I see people cheering the slogan "Bin Laden is dead!", all I can think is that we might as well go full on medieval:
"Bin Laden is Dead! Long Live Bin Laden!"
'Cause the way things are here, we're just replacing him. (Or have just offed the usurper to our throne.)
Please. Can we look for leaders who are actually seeing what is needed to steer humanity into a more just and sustainable way of being? I simply can't vote for someone, or a political party, whose campaign rhetoric includes bragging about killing.
11:34 AM PT: I'm out folks. Sorry to have bothered you all with how I am repulsed at celebrating killing. (Which is different from finding it necessary or recognizing this is the human reality.) Best to you all. Peace.
