I look old. I know that because men have started calling me "young lady".
Most are very nice men, all are significantly younger than I am. One of them, my dentist I've been going to for years. I've spent thousands of dollars in his business, but because I have wrinkles he cannot be bothered to recall my name. I'm sure it never crosses his mind he is being patronizing and yes, sexist. Do men my age get called "young man"? I doubt it. I've never heard my husband called "young man" or anything like that and he is several years older than I am. Older men are called "mister" or "sir".
When a woman is no longer physically desirable to men, she pretty much disappears to them. She no longer has value even in their eyes even though she may have done extraordinary things in her life. She may well still be doing them.
For a while I ignored my new status as a nonentity, but I've started speaking up. I tell them "If you can't be bothered to remember my name, just call me mam". I may be a little old lady, but I refuse to be a sweet one.
I wish I could think of something humorous but pithy to say when I'm "young ladyed". Any suggestions?
