The Republicans will do anything to turn this Bin Laden issue into a controversy. They want to make it about how the President is bragging. They want to make it about how Obama is not giving the troops any credit. They want to make it about how Bush deserves credit for torture. They would love to shift the debate. Even if Bush did nothing, even if the Senate Intelligence Committee says that torture had nothing to do with getting Bin Laden, just the simple fact that the conversation is about Bush is a victory for them. The conversation gets cumbersome. And in this media environment, no one really has time to get their point across and BAM! we have a controversy....
So I want to shift the conversation back with a simple question: "So, are you proud of this President for making the decision to get Bin Laden?"
Now, just to show you how much Republicans love changing the question: if you ask "So, are you proud of this president for killing Bin Laden?" They simply retort "Obama didn't kill Bin Laden. Our soldiers did." You see, they just obfuscated the issue, showing their own patriotism and support for the soldiers while insulting the President. They WANT you to ask a question that they can evade. They don't want to answer the real question. The real answers aren't as important to them as how they can crush Obama. Truth be damned. Patriotism be damned. They care only about winning, and they are skilled at debating away from the truth.
But if you ask the question I pose, they have to answer. And when they answer "no", what better example do you need of a partisan hack who can't even support the President when he did something clearly right? Then the conversation is about how Republicans are hacks who turn non-issues into controversies.
I mean if Republicans are hacks about that, what else could they be hacks about? How about the Stimulus? How about Social Security? How about taxes? All are former non-issues that are now controversies.
Then the conversation has shifted.
