Being a politician, Obama will go with the winds of public opinion on most issues, and probably doesn't really care one way or the other about gay marriage. But there are laws in the land, and what is legal or illegal affects everyone. The issue of homosexual activities and relations is a political hot potato. Plus, there are the questions of States Rights (state law) versus the Federal government (Federal law). How we structure our society is an increasingly complex issue, and the debate over homosexuals is one of those issues.
There is a hotly contested Presidential election coming up, and all the presidential hopefuls want to garner as many votes as possible. Certainly the homosexual voting bloc is a potent one, yet what percentage of the American public is actually homosexual? Pro-homosexuals want to paint their numbers larger than they may actually be; some estimates that less than 2% of the population is actively homosexual, but the homosexuals may Recently President Obama came out in support of same-sex marriage (Gays, Lesbians, Homosexuals, Transgenders) just after North Carolina passed legislation banning gay marriage and limiting same-sex civil unions. Obama has flipped flopped on the issue of hry to say that 20% (or more!) of the population is gay. Who is to say? How are the numbers arrived at? Then there is the question of are homosexuals born that way or made that way (nature vs. nurture). To say they are born that way is to say that God (the Creator) made a mistake when the person is born with either male or female equipment. If a person is born male, then obviously it is a male, not a female. So where did the same-sex mindset come from? It is obvious that homosexuals cannot reproduce, so from a purely biological point of view, homosexuality is an aberration, perhaps caused by societal indoctrination. The debate will continue for years to come.
