We are prone to seeing George W. Bush in Mitt Romney because the former is the most recent Republican to have pretended to be POTUS, but Romney has many (chuckle) qualities that are not quite in alignment with the former chimperor. And for a while I wasn't quite sure who in his party these other traits most resembled - he's definitely not a Reagan, because Reagan was a convincing method-actor when he tried to play the role of President, and had a real handle on the symbols of the republic his policies were demolishing. Romney, however, has considerable difficulty hiding his inherent shallowness and nihilism, and no one even on his own side mistakes him for a courageous visionary or patriot. But then it hit me - Nixon! Nixon alone is an even better analogy than Bush, and the two combined pretty much add up to one whole Romney.
