Hello, writers. As some of you know, I’m a cancer caretaker. Things have been a little lively the last few days. Not at panic stations, quite, but I haven’t had time to think about writing or do a proper diary.
So, instead, a question for you: What does/would writing success look like to you?
For most writers, I think success tends to be a moving train. Once upon a time I thought I didn’t want to die without having a novel published. Then I wanted a multi-book deal. Now I want one of my books to be displayed frontways on the end of the aisle at bookstores. Which is, now that I think about it, a darned weird criterion for success and has absolutely nothing to do with writing. Perhaps I should abandon that one and be satisfied with the status quo.
Anyway, how about you? What’s your goal, and have you reached it? Or what was your old goal and what’s your new one?
And another discussion question (one we’ve canvassed before, but there’ve been some personnel changes since then)—what book about writing do you think every writer should read?
In keeping with the theme of limited prep time, tonight’s challenge is a freewrite.
Write a scene inspired by the word shadows.
Write On! will be a regular weekly diary (Thurs 8 pm ET) until it isn't.
