We need to raise $700 to fix jan4insight's roof. She has been posting this plea for help in comments on the PWB diaries for the past week. Thanks to the good PWB & other community folks, I’ve accumulated about $350! (maybe more by the time this is published) towards that goal. But we need the full amount, so others suggested and triciawyse kindly offered to publish it in Community Fundraising. So here goes her message below ~ more below the jump
Long story short: I’ve chased leaks the entire 6 years I’ve lived in this house. The person I bought it from fancied himself a great DIYer when in reality he didn’t know what the bleep he was doing. I’ve had a lot of work done, fixing most of the leaks, until I ran out of money. Now there’s one last drippy area in my laundry room (which is also my pootie LuvLee’s litter-box boudoir). Actually it’s gone beyond drippy, to downright soggy. Last weekend I was about in tears when I came home during an unexpected rainstorm and found the laundry room half-flooded:
top of my dryer filled with water:
a drip caught in the action:
the flooded floor, and soggy pathway to the litter box:
Aren't those towels nice ;) that's an inside joke.
This can’t go on, and it has to go beyond quick fixes and d-i-y stuff. Getting it done for once & all involves extending the edge of the roof along one side of the house and adding a gutter and two downspouts. That’s why the estimate is $700.
At the risk of sounding abrupt, a couple of things I need to share, based on comments that came up in my other diary: I'm not looking for financial or home repair advice. I can't take out a loan because, with my mortgage and another loan I took to replace my furnace, I'm loaded with as much (or more) debt as I can handle. I'd also like to stick with the handyman who gave me the estimate, because he does good work, has great references, and at $25/hour is very reasonable. He uses this work to feed his family, too. So I'm not going to look for volunteer labor.
I don't want to ask for charity but I do have beautiful stuff to sell. Listed below are the ways you can help me if you’re so inclined. And if you can’t, I understand - but could you please promote this dairy and help spread the word?
