As a kid, when I was asked to draw a picture of where I lived, I cheerfully drew a house with embellishments of green grass, flowers, bright sun and fluffy clouds in a blue sky, trees with green leaves and birds singing away. And smoke coming out of the chimney. It took quite a while before I could grasp that chimneys could be drawn without smoke...my child self felt the need to show that smoke came out of chimneys, even if wasn't coming out of it in July.

Nothing is static; no matter how well you "know" how a place looks, there is always going to be a change. I've been kicking around the idea of diarying some of my favorite places at   different times of the year--looking at the "same" view to find new things. I started the process in a diary a couple of months ago; but I'm lazy, and can't always remember the exact spot I stood before...much less try to get there at the same time of day.

However, I thought it was time for another installment ... maybe I'll do a follow-up next fall. Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis is one of my favorite places, so even if I don't do a diary, I'll be there.

As an additional follow-up to the photos in "View 5" ... the tree that fell down is not gone. Recent rains have increased the flow of water in the creek (not to the level of last summer but Minnesota is now out of the drought, and is now merely "abnormally dry"), which has shifted the head of the tree downstream.

Mother Nature is tough, and the tree yet clings to life:

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
