I admit this diary is (a) not the one I was going to write; and (b) was written less than an hour ago. Hurry up and follow me below the dingledoodlesquiggliedKosagnocchidividerthingie fold after a word from our sponsor...
Here at Top Comments we strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it to topcomments at gmail by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
NOTE: Bowing to that newfangled DK4 stuff :-), you also may send nominations to the Top Comments group email. If you don't see a nomination you made to there in the diary, please pipe up - it means we're still trying to remember not to forget to check!
The kids had asked politely, so dinner was a trip to a local burger/sandwich/ice cream place. Name withheld to protect the guilty. I knew time was short tonite (I had TC to write, Mr. Brillig has office hours for the course he teaches online), but we've always been able to get in and out of this particular franchise pretty quickly.
Yeah. About that "quickly" thing...
We ordered, and after 20 minutes or so, started glancing pointedly at the waiter. He came over and explained they were short-staffed AND only had one cook on duty tonite. While that explained the situation, it didn't speed things up, and I did suggest people ought to know in advance that service will be slow, given the whole "fast food" expectation thing. A few minutes later we got our meals, then stuck around for ice cream (only one cook, but multiple ice cream scoopers :-)).
As we finished up, Mr. Brillig reminded me of the reason we Do Not Go to the other location nearby of this particular chain. We had been waiting for AGES for our food after a rather stressed-looking waitress took our order, enough so that all the tables also waiting for food had started chatting amongst ourselves. We were speculating as to what the issue was when suddenly the waitress burst out of the kitchen, walked out the door, and left.
I don't remember what happened next, whether we got food or not, but we swore never EVER to return. I really hate to put this location on the Naughty List because the ice cream is good. But I won't be returning there on a night when time is at a premium.
Got restaurant stories to share from either customer or employee side? Share em with us in the comments!
Without delay, here's the Three Tops:
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything
without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do
not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
From vcmvo2:
Based on a discussion of Bain and how unfair it is of the President to hit Romney on it, Nina Katerina comments on on the King of Bain. From Jed Lewison's Mitt Romney's Bain defense: I am free enterprise
From ScottyUrb:
Four for the price of one! This tongue-in-cheek comment from LaurenMonica promoted this side-splitter from CPDem81. That was followed by this analogy from HarlemUSA. Finally, CPDem81 chimed back in with this observation.
From Dave in Northridge:
I made a comment in Ministry of Truth's diary on the Iowa GOP platform that elicited this epic rant. That's the best comment I've seen here in MONTHS.
From Tamar:
This one by phrogge prince stands by itself -- doesn't even need a context. And had me laughing hard enough that it was a good thing I wasn't eating or drinking anything!
From Yours Truly, brillig:
In Hunter's Sheriff Joe diary, Mr MadAsHell likens the saga to Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego, and several people speculated on where the investigation will lead next, notably hotdamn and Steveningen.
Please read Meteor Blades' Invisible Indians at Netroots Nation: Despite effort to wipe them out, Narragansetts still live. Then remember this comment by Actbriniel next time you need to quiet someone on immigration issues.
