From the not-so-breaking news file:
CNN Host Piers Morgan has thus been only side-swiped by the "Murdoch-gate" inquiries into potentially far-reaching phone-hacking & bribery schemes throughout several Rupert Murdoch owned News Corp. properties, but as the circus comes back around, Morgan is back in the headlines.
Morgan appeared only as a witness in last Decemberâs round of testimony in London last year, but with spring a new round of finger-pointing has begun, and UK journalist & host Jeremy Paxman has thrown Morgan back into the spotlight.
Morgan's history with News Corp., as editor at the Sun for five years, followed by a similar stint at now defunct News of the World, immediately prior to any alleged issues in both cases, made him a natural guest at last yearâs inquires in the UK. Morgan testified to no knowledge of wrongdoing at either publication, and resumed his daily schedule at CNN. No pies thrown, Morgan's testimony ended up as one of the dryer moments in the schedule.
A new year, however, and a new set of witnesses, and Piers Morgan is once again in the spotlight, this time for lunch conversation in which he taught journalist Paxman how to hack voicemails.
Businessweek's coverage, helping us all learn to hack:
Morgan's public response via Twitter to the testimony didn't even include the denials from last season, instead focusing on his emotional pain:
"Right - that's the last time I'm inviting Jeremy Paxman to lunch. Ungrateful little wretch."
Poor Piers. I suppose his legacy of Sun Editorial excellence (immediately prior to alleged corruption), and News of the World Editorial excellence (immediately prior to alleged hacking outbreaks), and new broadcasting excellence at CNN (just prior to...well...CNN being CNN) will now be completely overshadowed by his ruined dinner plans.
