I can't stand Donald Trump, but gotta admit Celebrity Apprentice is one of my favorite TV shows. I guess I get a certain degree of entertainment from watching B and C list celebs throw each other under the bus while trying to suck up to the bloviating egomaniac from Hell.
Over the past couple of years of watching Trump say nasty, crazy things about President Obama...most notably that Trump isn't sure the President was born in Hawaii and that he wanted to see proof. I've always believed that birther nonsense was primarily rooted in racism. Therefore, when Trump embraced it, I figured Trump was a racist...in spite of his claims of good relations with "the blacks." Really though?! Really!?
My emerging belief that Trump was a racist was among the reasons I found it particularly hard to watch Celebrity Apprentice this season. Every time I saw Trump, I was reminded of his support of that birther crap and my concern that he's a racist...in addition to all of the other issues I have with him personally.
In that regard, never in a million years did I think Arsenio Hall had a snowball's chance in hell of winning that show. Especially after the way Arsenio used over-the-top sexist language to describe his arch nemisis on the show Aubrey O'Day -- even though she deserved it, but still you don't say what Arsenio said about a lady. It might be true, and you might think it, but you just don't say it. I was very disappointed in Arsenio at that point to say the least.
That wasn't the only reason why, but I felt Clay Aiken should've won. Afterall, he raised more money than Arsenio on that last challenge and his presentation was arguably better.
Also, over the course of the show, I thought Clay had come across as the better team player more consistently. Plus, when Trump polled the other celebs I think they voted something like 5 to 1 that Clay should win. Surprisingly, Trump chose Arsenio as the winner and he never gave a solid reason why.
That prompted me to say to my son, "Wow. I can't believe he picked Arsenio." My son responded, "He picked Arsenio just so people can't say he's a racist when he's attacking the President."
Bingo. Out of the mouths of babes!
And now almost simultaneously with the end of Celebrity Apprentice and Trump's annointing of his new "favorite Negro" Arsenio Hall, Trump starts up with this birther BS again. Coincidence? No way.
