I was searching Twitter the other day and came across a tweet in which this self-important dude with about 500 followers was abusing "hoes" and talking about how is "Ex blows him. . lol" I have the feeling this is not a very rare thing for people to say about women on Twitter and youtube and elsewhere on the web. I find also that the term "bitch" and "slut" is used with much more frequency on the web as in "bitchslap," "bitchhoe" etc. It's not your everyday lingo here or in general discussion but don't you think it shows that a certain corrosion has set in on how to respect women? I'd go on more generally about other coarsening aspects of society's language, but that is a somewhat different discussion. Maybe I am wrong and this is just an isolated subculture which has no effect on the general population.
Have you ever read any Jane Austen? I'm not by any means holding up her novels as a model for what the role of women should be in society, but there was a certain civility and respect that she conveys about her time that sometimes I think we'd do well to at least consider.
