I didn't even know about the process until a year ago. You write out your grievance and turn it to the VP of Student Services. Then the VP of Student Services reviews your complaint and they can approve or deny it. If it's denied you can appeal to a panel made up for the college's employees. They can approve and or deny your complaint. You can appeal it to the College's President who can also approve or deny it. Then you can appeal it to the Board of Trustees for the college district who can approve or deny your claim.
This process sounds pretty simple but I have a big problem with it. None of your student peers are involved in this process and all the panel people making the decisions are employees of the college. Who in their right mind would vote to say their employer is liable. I believe this needs to change. The college's need to have more independent parties involved in the grievance process. It's unfair to students and could help the district's spend less in ligation fees if the process was changed.
