In Essex coiunty NJ democrats aways win in the general election, so the primary is the real battle. Our NJ primary is June 5th, with the passing of one of the greatest democrats in the House, Donald Payne Sr in March, this race has attracted a lot of attention in NJ.
Donald Paynes son, Donald Payne jr has been endorsed by the county machine and given line "A", 5 more are running, but only 2 of those are of any real consequence, Ron C Rice and Nia Gill.
Ron C Rice first ran for Newark city council on the Cory Booker slate in 2002, as seen in the documentry "Street Fight". Booker and Rice went on to win in 2006. Ron Rice has has gone head to head on a number of issues since, particularily the privatization of schools and the City water company, Newark owns its one water company and reservoir. Ron is known as a policy geek, and is extremely knowledgeable. his ability to come up with solutions has won him the adolation of the West Ward that he serves.
Nia Gill is a NJ State Senator, a noted progressive, who recently voted with Chris Christie to privatize NJ public TV station, NJN.
The big NJ paper the Star Ledger has endorced Ron Rice, added the endorsement crown to the over 30 endorsements Ron has gotten from numerous elected officials in the district, including NJ's favorite sone State Senator Richard Codey.
So over the lsat 2 weeks DFA has hosted 2 house parties for Ron, that included a national DFA endorsement by Jim Dean, which came with a $2500 check and all told raise about $5000. Heres some pix from last Sunday in South Orange NJ:
Right, it could get interesting in Essex county NJ on June 5th....
Remember the old Dean thing about writing checks with the 1 cent? $20.01?
Right- LOL- we still do it. I wrote Ron a $60.01 check last week at a house party, where Ron picked up his $2,500 check from DFA, which comes with the DFA endorsement.
You can help.... yes, the ask...... 5 bucks and one cent... gotta have the one sent. But only if you can afford it, only if your rent is paid and you have food on the table.
And under no circumstances forget to put the one cent in there.......
