Talking Points Memo brings us this:
The idea that they knowingly slowed down our recovery in order to put in place Obamacare, which they wanted and they considered historic but the American people did not want or consider historic, is something which I think deserves a lot of explaining, because I think the President’s responsibility is to put people back to work.
This is so ludicrously juvenile and patently ridiculous that it's hard to believe that even the Romney campaign and today's GOP will float this trial balloon. We shouldn't be surprised by much that comes from them during this election campaign, but I'm honestly quite surprised they would try this.
It's a transparent response to charges that GOPers have been sabotaging the recovery since Obama took office. The evidence for that claim is in the congressional record and in the rhetoric and outright gleeful admissions by many on the right. But they expect people to believe Obama deliberately slowed down the recovery?
We can criticize -- from the left -- that the administration did not do enough to jump start the economy. Many of us would have liked to have seen something approaching a twenty first century New Deal. But what the Obama administration did do, they did over the objections and delaying and blocking tactics of the Republicans and their right wing allies. Who, beyond the birther friendly nuts in the RW blogoshpere, would believe Obama sabotaged his own recovery?
