God knows I don't have time to write a dairy right now. My daughter is getting married in another state in 17 days and one of the caterers ( a friend of someone in the grooms family) just pulled out of doing the catering (no there wasn't a contract because this was a friend of the groom's family) ... so among other things we are scrambling, I've also got to get ready to leave for said wedding AND I want to at least make an appearance at NN12 which is only 20 minutes from my home . . . but . . .
But this I can't shake. . . I am so angry . . .
A man, retired firefighter Raul Rodriguez, upset about the loud music at a party, walks two doors down to the party, encounters drunk people at the party (shocker) , says these "magical words"
“You need to stop right there,” Rodriguez says. “Don’t come any closer please. I’m telling you, I’m telling you, stop, I said stop right now or I will shoot you! … I fear for my life. I told you to stop, my life’s in danger, you got weapons on you, stay away from me.”
And he expects to walk due to Texas' Stand Your Ground law. It was, after all,
self defense. I guess Stand Your Ground even trumps the
Castle Doctrine.
Never mind that he was standing in the middle of the street and it appears that the drunk party goers never appear to leave the property of the party.
Never mind that he is brandishing a weapon and then says that the drunks are escalating because one said he would go into the house and get his gun so they could now be equal (geopolitical arms race played out in microcosm)
Never mind that he left 2 people injured and killed one, a P.E. teacher, Kelly Danaher, outside of Danaher's own home.
Never mind all that, he was just standing his ground . . . and video taping it all
As I have said before, the ONLY thing Stand Your Ground insures is that at least one person will die. Because to the victor goes the tale.
It might be interesting to see which wins out, the Stand Your Ground law or the Castle Doctrine if it weren't so tragic. One man died, 2 more are injured and none of it would have happened if some numb nut with a weapon didn't think he had a chance to beat the wrap over some loud music.
THE DEATH AND INJURY DIDN'T NEED TO HAPPEN . . . how many lives in total have now been destroyed due to this stupid piece of ALEC, NRA inspired crap?! Not just for those dead and injured but their families and even those who pulled the trigger and their families. And it's not even fairly applied, there have been cases where the non-white, non-male, person was really threatened, pulled the trigger, and they now sit in jail.
But police you are now on notice, if you are on the force in one of these states and you don't get to a call on ANYTHING, even stupid things, even loud music, someone may die.
And teenagers, young adults living in these states you are on notice too . . . your loud music, in your own home, could cost you your life ... and the person who murdered you could, with the law behind him, get off scott free.
