So, Mitt has gone from Wisconsin told us not to hire more teachers, to now...it's "absurd" to criticize him, because the federal government doesn't pay for teachers.
Being a conservative, I suppose it is possible that he hasn't heard of the Department of Education.
Mitt ought to know at least that he's being recorded...

And his answer for economic vitality by the way was of course pushing aside the private sector, which he said is doing fine; instead, he wants to add more to government. He wants another stimulus. He wants to hire more government workers. He says we need more firemen, more policemen, more teachers. Did he not get the message of Wisconsin?

Indeed, portions of Obama's jobs bill that would have gone to hire folks like these were precisely the ones that were voted down by Republicans, in favor of all the tax breaks. The feds provide funding for hiring. It's not absurd to say that they have a direct hand in hiring (or not hiring, if you're Mitt Romney). Nevertheless...
Romney tells Fox News that the criticism is "completely absurd." He says that the federal government doesn't pay for teachers, firemen or policemen.
While that's technically true in most cases, state and local governments depend on federal aid to supplement their budgets.
