I was not at all sure how to vote in the Alexandria City Council, but I found an article expressing the Sierra Club endorsement of Pepper, Smedberg, Fossum, Holihan, Lovain and Wilson and decided "good enough".  In the primary between Moran and Shuttleworth, I had no pangs of conscience selecting Moran without having a clue about who Shuttleworth is or what he believes in.  Seriously, if you are a democrat and want to be a congressman there are smarter ways to do it than to primary-challenge someone who has won his seat repeatedly for over 20 years and is doing a good job to boot.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

person to vote in this precinct in the red part of Roanoke.

There were only republicans on the ballot so I voted against George Allen (Sen) and Bob Goodlatte (R-VA06).

I'm not sure what number I was, but there was no one in front of me around 11:30 AM.

They offered me a choice between the electronic "gizmo" and an optically scanned piece of paper.  I went with the paper.  They had pens to fill in the boxes and while filling in my boxes I contemplated the possibility that my pen was transparent in infra-red.

I suspect I will remain an incurable optimist until the end!

Reminds me of one someone recently posted on Facebook:
