The Daily Bucket is a place where we post and exchange our observations about what is happening in the natural world in our neighborhood. Each note about the bugs, buds, and birds around us is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns of nature that are quietly unwinding around us.
We traveled to Maine on May 31st. My brother met us and took us to his home at Owls Head. He and his partner live a couple of miles inland and are surrounded by trees. They can't see the coast. Wanting to be good hosts, they took us to a nearby lighthouse at Marshall Point to give us a flavor of the Maine coast experience. It was a beautiful day with sunshine and cool temps. Two days after, the weather socked us in and dropped 5" of rain. Down the coast in Portland they had 7 or 8". But this day was ideal.

Come below the orange kelp tangle for more.

Turning around and looking back at the keeper's house one see this perfect and iconic building at the end of the walkway.

From this vantage point, turn the the left to catch a view of some boats in the Port Clyde harbor.

The next day we went to the Owls Head lighthouse maintained by the Coast Guard. We were able to enter and climb up to see the interior.

It housed a classic Fresnel lensed light. For a sense of scale, this image is about 3 feet tall.

Later that day we headed out to the breakwater at Rockland harbor. This structure provides calmed waters for the harbor. The huge granite stones were fun to walk along.

Just before venturing out on the breakwater, we saw this lovely rose.

We had two lovely days outdoors before the rains came and kept us inside. But, we took full advantage of the indoor time and caught up on visits with our hosts. We had a great time.

What is going on in your part of the world? Toss your comments into the bucket. Give it a stir and share your views. It is good to see you again.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
