No, this isn't a sneaky way to get more ads onto DK. This would just be a good way to thank General Mills. The Golden Valley, Minnesota based company's CEO, Ken Powell, announced Wednesday to a group of 400 GLBT professionals that it was opposed to the proposed Minnesota constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. This was after a company representative testified before the Senate in support of ENDA on Tuesday. On Thursday, General Mills followed up with this blog post in which it said
We believe a diverse, inclusive culture produces a stronger, more engaged workforce – and strengthens innovation. Inclusive communities are more successful economically as well. We believe it is important for Minnesota to be viewed as inclusive and welcoming as well.
The Twin Cities newspaper The StarTribune, wrote an
editorial praising General Mills corporate courage.
Not everyone agrees - one of the comments online to that editoral stated
No more General Mills cereals and food products for this large Catholic family. Looks like their downsizing is a result of their poor decision-making on many levels.
So, buy some Cheerios, some Betty Crocker mixes, Green Giant veggies, Progresso soup and Yoplait yogurt. We need to make up for a big Catholic family or two.
And, please sign this online petition thanking General Mills by Minnesotans United for All Families, the coalition fighting the anti-marriage amendment.
