The Roman workers simply stopped cooperating with the Nobles. I have to run but have been studying how Republics were formed and wanted to share this take away.
The workers way back in history, Rome simply left the cities until the 1% conceded and allowed the workers to be PART of governing. The Republic was born because the 99% refused to work. The 1% lavish lifestyles and wealth were dependent on the 99% workforce and the money they spent. Rome's 99% won after they stopped cooperating with the corrupt Plutocratic system.
The 99% have three major powers
The Power of the Purse
The Power of Refusing to Cooperate
The Power of Jamming the Cogs of Corrupt Governance
Success for the 99%, if it chose to do so, would probably require donations from the uber wealthy people that are smart enough to know that TRUE NATIONAL SECURITY is reliant on more income equality and working wages, $$ to provide for services that help prevent crime and foster emotionally healthy citizens, and the end of non-representation for large swaths of citizens by our political system. It's complicated!
Our Republic has been corrupted. Few in any of the partisan camps disagree with this.
How it is cleaned up is up to the 99%.
Do we continue to feed the beasts and work for THEIR system, which is hell bent on returning the world to worse than Dicksonian hell; or do we exercise our non-violent powers?
Of course, if we did exercise the three powers above, we would have to become an uber interdependent society, the complete opposite of the "freedom" "we are all on our own" meme we have been fed for decades; an uber lie fostered by the Purveyors of Greed.
This song kind of paints the picture, imo
THE BIDDING OF THE MANY, NOT THE FEW
Just in case you haven't heard of this and would enjoy a MEET UP when they get to your City.
For the details go to the OCCUPY CARAVAN website:
Occupy Caravan reminds me of Gandhi's Salt Walk, but I wonder if enough people will join in to make an impact?
It reminds me of the Gandhi Salt March.
A powerful quote from Gandhi's speech before the march:
My compact with the Congress ends as soon as I am arrested.
In that case volunteers, wherever possible, civil disobedience of salt should be started. These laws can be violated in three ways.
THE LAWS WE OBJECT TO:
It is an offence to manufacture salt wherever there are facilities for doing so.
The possession and sale of contraband salt, which includes natural salt or salt earth, is also an offence.
The purchasers of such salt will be equally guilty.
To carry away the natural salt deposits on the seashore is likewise violation of law.
So is the hawking of such salt.
In short, you may choose any one or all of these devices to break the salt monopoly.
We are, however, not to be content with this alone. There is no ban by the Congress and wherever the local workers have self-confidence other suitable measures may be adopted.
I stress only one condition, namely, let our pledge of truth and nonviolence as the only means for the attainment of Swaraj be faithfully kept.
For the rest, every one has a free hand.
But, than does not give a license to all and sundry to carry on their own responsibility.
Wherever there are local leaders, their orders should be obeyed by the people.
Where there are no leaders and only a handful of men have faith in the programme, they may do what they can, if they have enough self-confidence.
They have a right, nay it is their duty, to do so.
The history of the is full of instances of men who rose to leadership, by sheer force of self-confidence, bravery and tenacity.
We too, if we sincerely aspire to Swaraj and are impatient to attain it, should have similar self-confidence. Our ranks will swell and our hearts strengthen, as the number of our arrests by the Government increases.
At some point in time, a suppressed and/or oppressed people reach a tipping point.
Like Gandhi's India, they no longer fear the billy clubs and bullets. Like the license plate of New Hampshire, they become determined to Live Free or Die.
This scene from the Gandhi movie is that tipping point. The British Empire lost the respect of the world after this egregious violence against non-violent protesters standing up to the unfairness of their governance.
And the infamous bravery of the determined people at the Salt Works
What is America's tipping point?
We each need to ask ourselves "What is our tipping point?"
Will the day come that we no longer fear the billy clubs and bullets and/or the new "crowd control" technologies paid for by the brave blood, sweat, and tears of sand pelted, flea bitten, heat suffering soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq?
