Yeah, I know ...... you are photo-diaried-out, by now. But on the belief one can't have too much Netroots Nation ... here are some more, after the jump ....
But first: Top Comments appears nightly, as a round-up of the best comments on Daily Kos. Surely you come across comments daily that are perceptive, apropos and .. well, perhaps even humorous. But they are more meaningful if they're well-known ... which is where you come in (especially in diaries/stories receiving little attention).
Send your nominations to TopComments at gmail dot com by 9:30 PM Eastern Time nightly, and indicate (a) why you liked the comment, and (b) your Dkos user name (to properly credit you) as well as a link to the comment itself.
Occupy Providence was out in force ... and here was a Native American drum circle just outside the convention center.
As a lifelong Mets and Red Sox fan, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the (now retired) pitcher Curt Schilling for helping lead the Sox to a pair of World Series championships, despite his politics .... but I loved this Occupy sign, advising against more corporate welfare for his video-game company 38 Studios (based upon his uniform number 38). After his retirement, he remained in the Boston area, and sought financing help from the state of Massachusetts, who turned him down. Then, another New England state with fond memories of Schilling - in the form of former Rhode Island GOP governor Don Carcieri - expanded their Economic Development loan program - in order to offer 38 Studios some $75 million in loan guarantees - in order to entice the company to move to Providence.
But after some initial successes, the company had trouble meeting payroll - and then new governor Lincoln Chaffee - a former Republican, now independent - opposed extending further credit, thus earning Schilling's ire despite normally being a "small government" type.
The redoubtable Cedwyn as well as Horace Boothroyd III.
A treat at every Netroots Nation is the Thursday night session of Laughing Liberally - which as a host of a Drinking Liberally I can especially recommend.
Now, shout-outs to my Cheers & Jeers cronies: with Brillig as well as Doggie269 in the background, and mik in the foreground.
And, of course, Cheers & Jeers host Bill in Portland Maine plus Common Sense Mainer with the annual Kiddie Pool signing - a Netroots Nation tradition.
One of the most fun things at Netroots is going out for dinner at random, without any specific guest list. (L-to-R): Norm, vicki, Sharoney and Mr. Sharoney, Pam Miles plus Simple.
One of the best things about Netroots Nation: with all of the sponsored breakfasts, lunches and receptions, you need not take out your wallet as much as you expect. Here was a special event organized by the AFL-CIO - with a free drink ticket, and some decent bar food to enjoy. And there were special guests attending ....
In the magenta top is someone who almost became my congresswoman in 2010, and I pray will be elected this fall - Ann Kuster from New Hampshire's 2nd District.
Outgoing North Carolina congressman Brad Miller was there ....
... as was the omnipresent Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse - who (along with Providence mayor Angel Tavares) was a big part in helping facilitate this convention ....
... as, for example: the event WaterFire - with 100 bonfires along the river, with music played - is not a regular, weekly event. But we strolled up to the event seeing "Welcome, Netroots Nation" on messages near the site.
The closing party was wonderful - especially since it was largely held outside, so that the geezers like myself could talk amongst ourselves without the volume being too much.
While we had some rain earlier in the convention, the party along a nearby marina was on a gorgeous night - with a great view of both downtown and even the local power plant.
Rather than take a cab back to the hotel, I walked back (taking about 10-12 minutes) because the night was so pleasant. In doing so, I walked by 5-6 nightclubs (both dance music as well as rock'n'roll) with young people waiting to get in at 1:00 AM .... and I saw myself in some of their faces. "Enjoy these years, kids" I was thinking to myself, as I used to be able to stay out until the 4:00 AM closing back in my native Long Island. "You won't be able to begin your night out at 1:00 AM so easily when you're in your fifties" .... but hoped they'd have fun (I know I did).
Sunday morning comes all-too-quickly: and the attendees with their suitcases are about to make the trek home ...
...and ...... well, this was irresistible. Yes, I know Walker survived .. but he lost control of the Wisconsin Senate and thus can't call a special session to deal with an "emergency" (i.e., an emergency call from David Koch) without a check-and-balance. All-in-all: a very good week.
Of course, yours truly can never turnoff my Separated at Birth meter - and so I'll end with .....
OLDER-YOUNGER BROTHERS? - alas, former Alabama governor Don Siegelman and (alas, again) soon-to-be former congressman Brad Miller of North Carolina.
SEPARATED at BIRTH - two attorneys: Netroots Nation board member Adam Bonin and keynote speaker Eric Schneiderman - New York's Attorney General.
