I had the privileged of watching the King5 TV forum for the candidates vying to occupy Jay Inslee's seat in Washington's First District this morning.

For the most part it was exactly what you would expect, little excitement and predictable answers.

But some things are just so amazing... its one thing to deny forces that are hard to see or understand, to question economic theories or even dietary choices.  It is something completely different to deny an existing and well publicized Federal Law exists...

Read what Darcy had to say about the experience from her perspective after the jump.

This email just went out from Darcy:

I’ve heard Republicans lie. I’ve heard Fox News manipulate the truth. I’ve heard plenty of outrageous things. John Koster proved that through either ignorance or willful rejection of reality, Republicans can still shock me.

In an interview that will air on Sunday on King5, a question was asked about Congress addressing marriage equality. I answered that not only should we repeal DOMA, but we should go further and provide all married couples with all of the Federal benefits of marriage.

I was stunned by what followed.

John Koster jumped right in with an outrageous statement.

“...there is no Federal Defense of Marriage Act...”

Well Mr. Koster, there is the Defense of Marriage Act, HR 3396 passed by Speaker Gingrich’s 104th Congress, which became law on September 21st, 1996.

Mario, with your help, we’re going to change that.

We should treat all marriages fairly, and we should treat all loving couple with the same respect.

This weekend is Seattle Pride, show your support by splitting a contribution with my campaign for Congress and Washington United for Marriage.

Together we will fight to bend the arc of history towards justice for all.

I've been out here in Redmond working on her campaign for a few weeks, I've been a fan of Darcy's for several years, and a friend for just a little less than that.  Working on Congressional Campaigns is hard on the body, mind and so (only slightly less so than being a candidate for congress yourself).  Working for a passionate, brilliant, honorable candidate like Darcy is well worth it.  She inspires us to expand our horizons every day.  It is Friday at nearly 7pm and I had to throw the staff out of the office just a few moments ago.

Darcy is one of us.  Consider giving $14 to help send a Netroots Nation champion to the US Congress - where she will fight to fix Congress, bring our troops and money home and make America work again for Americans who work for a living.

If it isn't clear, I am proud to work for Darcy Burner's Campaign.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
