Glenn Beck's The Blaze site is trying to spread this meme: The Occupy Movement is Dead!

I wonder how many other right wingers are going to spread it until it becomes part of the mainstream media's latest "news".

In the meantime, the Occupy National Convention in Philadelphia is still going on as scheduled.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

This "meme" started after the fall of the camps and the coordinated police actions across the country.  Intensified after May Day and has continued across the MSM and Intertoobs since.

I don't have the time to link you all the Occupy is Dead stories.

Also, the validity of the Philadelphia convention has been a subject of dispute within Occupy as to its adherence to principles and GA organization.  Again, look it up.

Glenn Beck sucks.  But a post on the f'g Blaze 3 days ago does not mean squat.

    Let's catch up, shall we?

  •  I agree that Occupy isn't necessarily dead... (0+ / 0-)

...though the fact that summer is now here in full swing and the various Occupies don't seem to be doing a whole lot, as they'd promised to do when many of them shut down over the winter, doesn't speak well to the movement's sustainability.

But the Occupy National Convention remains a damn farce, because they still give the District of Columbia only one delegate, instead of the two to which we should be entitled, and still give Puerto Rico only one delegate instead of the many more to which its 3.7-million-person population would entitle it if it were a state.

So the Occupy National Convention is just reinforcing the systematic inequalities that plague our system, rather than starting out with an equitable structure.

  •  In the Same Sense All the Media Began Pronouncing (0+ / 0-)

Michael Moore "overexposed" some years ago. They were dog whistling each other that mainstream coverage of him should come to an end, which it did.

The mainstream media were never going to give Occupy exposure for very long. Anyone launching any kind of popular movement needs to be prepared for mainstream invisibility.

    •  Moore isn't much newsworthy anymore (0+ / 0-)

This last film was three years ago, and his last book was a memoir. He pops up on MSNBC every couple months or so, but other than that he doesn't do much to maintain the Fanbase and following he once had.

      •  I think he is very active and has a lot of fans (0+ / 0-)

I'm glad he joined in gathering signatures for Correa to give sanctuary to Julian Assange. I think when someone doesn't appear on tv people feel they are gone, but that's not the case with an activist that has been busy a long long time.

We will also hand-deliver the online petition circulated by Just Foreign Policy, which has now been signed by more than 4000 people. That petition - which you can still sign - is here:

Occupy might not be dead but it's in pretty bad shape. They said that it wasn't going to have problems in the winter, but it did. We were told there was supposed to be a spring revival, and there wasn't. And now we're in summer, and there still isn't much to show for it.

It's not dead in Olympia, Washington state.  We're 10,000 signatures into our 12,500 goal to get rid of Puget Sound Energy.  We want a public utility district.....locally owned.

PSE is owned by Canadian & Australian interests.  The work crews often come from out of state.  We have the highest rates in the state.  Occupy intends to change that.
