There are a lot of religious nuts, of all faiths. And there are also a lot of people who simply use bogus religious examples to argue for their own personal political beliefs. Let me clarify: I respect the faith of good people who live it in all aspects of their lives. How can a person truly accept a faith, if they don't live it in every action?
I like this example: For political reasons, I don't mind that some Americans don't think positively about the politics of Jimmy Carter (even though I disagree). But his generally quiet faith has been exemplary though his writings, his work with Habitat for Humanity, and many other aspects of his life. People may not agree with him politically, but he's a good human being, and a great representative of his faith as a result.
Conversely, how can a person who promotes their faith with advertising and icons, then be faithful to those ideas when they refuse to be charitable, when they refuse to be truthful, are unkind to others, or are opposed to at least providing medical care to children?
The easiest way to pick on the fake faithful, the religo-nuts, is to A) Remind them that God had a Top Ten list, and that B) The book in the Bible they cite that makes them feel good about hating some people, also says that eating shellfish (shrimp, lobster, crab) is an abomination, as is eating swine (try eating a good BBQ or pizza without pig, pepperoni or sausage). Therefore, Red Lobster and Rib Crib are Abominations unto the Lord.
Leviticus 11:9-12 (shellfish)
Proverbs 11:1 and 20:23 (unequal weights- a form of lying)
Deuteronomy 22:5 (a woman wearing a man's clothes, or vice versa)
Isaiah 1:13 (incense)
Leviticus 19:27 (cutting the hair on temples or beard)
There are many translations of the Bible, some things are labeled "abominations" while others are labeled "unclean," and even recommended stoning to death of adulterers (John 8:4-5), but in John 8:7, He said, "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone."
As I said, for people who claim to be of the Christian, Judaic or (yes) Islamic faiths, God made a top 10 list. I'd assume those things Moses came back with were the most important. Gays, seafood, women's clothing, incense and menstruation aren't on that list.
