The public is intrigued by Mitt Romney's tax problems. But this can change quickly if there is too much information floating around: Then it gets unclear and people might get bored or confused. In my opinion an effective political message is very short, clear and simple. It all boils down to:
Mitt evaded taxes. Legally (or not), everyone has to pay their fair share. America gave him much, he did not give enough back. America would have needed this money badly.
What is it called when someone puts his own interests above those of his country? It is unpatriotic, a lack of patriotism.
Call it a personal attack: It is. A candidate has to have the character of a president. A lack of patriotism is a serious character flaw that makes you unfit to become commander-in-chief.
The tax evasion was legal? We accept Mitt Romney's word when he says it was legal. But that IS THE POINT: Because giving to his country and keeping his millions for himself were both legal, he had a choice. A choice to pay his taxes like everybody else, helping his country by giving back some of the money he made here. But he chose to keep as much of it as possible for himself. He refused to sacrifice some of his wealth for the good of America. This man is no patriot and does not deserve to be president: A lack of willingness to sacrifice is not what we want in the leader of our country.
