I detest the comparison of what Mitt Romney is going through to what John Kerry went through. The Swiftboat-campaign was fundamentally dishonest and dishonorable. The campaign against Mitt Romney, however, isn't really. The differences in the nature of the campaigns mostly end there. Like with John Kerry, this is about disqualifying the non-incumbent for the office in question; President of the United States of America.
However the present day campaign is going to be far more effective and brutal than the Swiftboating of John Kerry.
Vulture capitalism is a twisted and evil spin on actual capitalism. Mitt Romney has been sustaining a withering assault on this front and there will be plenty more to come. Same with out-sourcing which further paints the picture of Mitt Romney as a money-before-country kind of candidate. And of course taxes. Swiss Bank accounts, the Caymans, et cetra. What this is all doing is feeding into the narrative that Mitt Romney does not put his country first. He's the candidate trying to swindle a big return on an investment that should have been for benefits in terms of health-care and pensions for the little guy. He's the candidate trying to pay as little in taxes as possible despite his vast and gross wealth He's the candidate who thinks we're all stupid enough to believe an Etch a Sketch. He's the candidate who thinks he can buy the Presidency.
But soon enough, Mitt Romney's days in France during the Vietnam War will become far more known to the American electorate.
