Three years ago, my son was sworn in as a Foreign Service Officer (diplomat) with the Department of State. I was so proud and happy for him, especially because he was in the first group under the Obama administration and with Hillary Clinton as Secretary Of State. As he took the oath, my husband looked around and said, "Hey, there's some old guys in here!"
Fast forward - at the age of 59 3/4 (just barely beating the age-60 cutoff) my husband is joining the ranks of Junior Foreign Service Officers and he and I are about to find out which country we will be moving to. This weekend we are researching the details about the countries on the list of possibilities. It's fascinating to read about the amazing variety in culture, language, political systems, climate, and history in our world. No matter where we end up, I know I'll learn so much.
It's no secret that most of the career State Department people are rooting for the re-election of our current President. People all over the world respect and admire him. I believe he has personally done so much to restore our standing in the world.
I thank you, President Obama.
