I'm a liberal-very liberal. I love when those that are hurting getting help from whatever source it comes from. I don't care who gives it; or who gets it---as long as there is some presumed actual need.
Thurday's taped "Ellen" (DeGeneres) show featured one of these humanitarian giveaways at the end of her show.
Ellen does this kind of thing occasionally, as did Oprah back in the day---audiences love it
All well & good.
However.....follow me below the fold....
I tuned in late; and only got some of the details---but enough to allow me to offer some commentary.
I do not know the background on the lady and her family; or, the reason she was in need of a new home; but she apparently was affiliated with some church group that was assisting her. She herself was not evidently diasabled nor did it appear her children were; but there may have been some severe difficulties in her current life that necessitated some assistance.
Fine! And all the giveaway was donated by various sponsors --who, of course, got their plugs.
Fine!
BUT.....why does the new home need to be 3000 sq feet and cost a quarter million dollars; AND be filled with $150,000 worth of goodies (quote from Ellen)?????
I don't begrudge anyone in need getting a huge help---even a newly built home---perhaps to get them out of a terrible environment.
That said, why does it have to be bigger than the average; and why should it be outfitted with enormous amounts of new everything???
To me this sends a terribly wrong message about how we "help" our neighbors.
I'm glad she got a benefit; but way too much....
Rant over....
