This one is short and, actually, kind of sweet, in contrast to Mitt the Moron embarrassing himself across the pond, and all of the USA, by extension, by being yet another case of "the ugly American", albeit with more media coverage than most. (This won't stop at least 47% of the electorate here from being stupid enough to vote for him, so don't assume that he's toast, not with all that money behind him. But 3CM digresses, as usual.) However, I suppose there's a strained connection between the main SNLC topic here and Mitt the Moron, if only by way of contrast. It's about a CEO who made a gesture that would get him laughed into oblivion, if not his career wrecked, here. More (though not much more) below the flip.....
It's about the Chinese computer company Lenovo and its CEO, Yang Yuanqing. Lenovo reported a 73% increase in profits in its first quarter. Yang received a $3M bonus as a result. But guess what he did with it. Vincent Trivett wrote about this story on the Minyanville site here, while Andreas Jaregui blogged about it in HuffPo. Namely, per Trivett:
"The company thanked Yang for his performance with an extra $3 million, and he gave it all away to 10,000 lower-ranked employees in Lenovo's offices, call centers, and factories. Each worker received 2000 renminbi, or $314.
This is about the equivalent of a month's salary for many Lenovo workers."
Of course, Yang isn't really hurting overall:
"Before you call Yang a selfless working-class hero, keep in mind that the $3 million is only part of the $14 million that he has been awarded in various ways including salary, stock, and other benefits for his work at the company."
Still, Yang didn't have to do this. And it's not to be assumed that this is typical of Chinese companies, far from it. But I can't think of a comparable example here off hand recently. (Google didn't reveal anything either.) Plus, would Mitt the Moron ever do anything like that? I can more likely imagine President Obama doing that, if you put the two in comparable situations. Of course, that's all hypothetical, meaningless speculation.
With the above good deed in mind, you can observe the usual SNLC protocol below, namely your loser stories of the week, keeping in mind one small thing, as if you cared......
