Like it or not, the fact of the matter is, every single President since 1967 has maintained that Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel. This Diary is not for or against the desired status of Jerusalem. This Diary is about facts only. And the fact is: Every U.S. President since 1967 has rejected any notion that Jerusalem is the Capital of Israel.
Not only that, but equally important is the fact that America's Allies in the Middle East, including Britain, also reject, and have always rejected, any notion that Jerusalem is the Capital of Israel.
But in order to appease the Sheldon Adelson's of the Electorate and while on foreign soil, Mitt Romney unilaterally thwarted establish U.S. Foreign Policy and made a declaration that the Foreign Policy of the Republican Candidate for President of the United States is: 'Jerusalem is the Capital of Israel.'
ROMNEY: “It is a deeply moving experience to be in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel."
Romney's declaration was not only naive but it was reckless and dangerous to U.S. National Security and to our troops stationed in the Middle East.
Then Romney doubled-down and told CNN that Israel gets to "pick" their Capital
Blitzer, Do you view Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
ROMNEY: “Yes, of course. A nation has the capacity to choose its own capital city, and Jerusalem is Israel’s capital.”
Romney's comment proves he has
no clue what has taken place in Israel since June 1967. Because if Mitt did know, then he would know that America's Allies and America views Israel's 'settlements' in East Jerusalem as a violation of the November 1967 UN Resolution 242 and as such U.S. Foreign Policy does
not recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Then, to add insult to injury, Mitt Romney said that the Israeli settlement issue should only be spoken about "in private" and only by the United States President and America's Allies -- to hell with the American people and to hell with the Palestinians.
ROMNEY: "I believe that the issue of settlements is something which should be discussed in private by the American president and our allies. When we show diplomatic distance between ourselves and our ally, I think we encourage people who oppose that relationship to seek other means to achieve their ends."
Mitt Romney has either been in a coma since 1967, or he has no effing clue about U.S. Foreign Policy in the Middle East.
Does Romney have no GD clue that Jerusalem is part of the settlement issue? Romney must not know that because out of one side of his mouth Romney publicly goes against established U.S. Foreign Policy and declares "Jerusalem is the capital of Isreal" - then out of the other side of his mouth he says "settlements is something which should be discussed in private by the American president and our allies."
Romney underscores and highlights his ignorance on the settlement issue as he
I cannot even come up with an adjective to describe Romney's ignorance on his comment:
"When we show diplomatic distance between ourselves and our ally [Israel], I think we encourage people who oppose that relationship to seek other means to achieve their ends."
Here's a couple of clues for Mitt:
Every U.S. President since 1967 has publicly discussed U.S. Foreign Policy as it pertains to Israeli Settlements.
Every U.S. President since 1967 has "shown diplomatic distance" on the Israeli Settlements.
Every U.S. President since 1967 has included Palestinians in their discussions and every President since 1967 has publicly stated the Settlements go against U.S. Foreign Policy
Then Romney decided it was time to
insult the culture of non-Israeli's in the Middle East and said that people like him,
Romney, and people like Netanyahu are
Culturally Superior to those loathsome 'poors' in
Latin America and the
Middle East and that cultural superiority created financial success.
ROMNEY:
"If you can learn anything from the economic history of the world, it’s this: culture makes all the difference. Culture makes all the difference. And as I come here and I look out over this city and consider the accomplishments of the people of this nation, I recognize the power of at least culture and a few other things.”
“As you come here and you see the GDP per capita, for instance, in Israel, which is about $21,000 dollars, and compare that with the GDP per capita just across the areas managed by the Palestinian Authority, which is more like $10,000 per capita, you notice such a dramatically stark difference in economic vitality
Romney also said America is culturally superior to Latin America and therefore our GDP is better than their GDP.
Romney is a clueless, bigoted race-baiter. While on U.S. soil Romney and his campaign spew lies against President Obama to incite bigotry. While on Foreign soil, Romney spews lies against the people of the Middle-East to incite bigotry between Israel and the Arab people.
As anyone could have expected, Romney's reckless comments have stirred the hornest's nest in the Middle East as America and America's Allies do not recognize Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel. And anyone who thinks one culture is "superior" to another culture and that 'cultural superiority' is what gives rise to financial success is a bigot. Romney is a bigot.
I suggest Romney get 'clued in' to established U.S. Foreign Policy by researching: "Mid-East Peace Talks", "Oslo", "UN Resolution 242," and the "Mitchell Plan" just as starters in learning about established U.S. Foreign Policy on the Settlements.
No matter what anyone's desired status for Israel or Jerusalem is, it is reckless and dangerous for a Candidate for U.S. President to go on foreign soil and make a declaration that goes against established U.S. Foreign Policy.
