I have never wanted to take away anyone’s “freedoms” because I cherish my freedoms dearly.
I try never to take my freedoms for granted because I am very aware of how many others in the world do not have the same freedoms as I do in the United States. Having so many freedoms is what makes America, America.
I love the fact that I have more freedoms than I know what to do with at times, I can attend a midnight showing of Batman, or stand for twenty minutes in front of the grape jelly and decide which brand I want to buy.
Sometimes we take our freedoms for granted, we go where we want when we want, never giving thought that it may be the last freedom we ever enjoy.
I am, however, ready to give up some of my freedoms. I am ready to give up my freedom to own an assault rifle and 100 clip rounds of ammunition. I am ready to give-up the freedom to be able to gun people down in cold-blood in a midnight showing of Batman or a Sikh Temple in Wisconsin.
I am ready to give up my freedom to bear assault rifles: because that is a freedom I no longer see a point in having if it means that I or others will be killed because of that freedom. I cannot wrap my head around the fact that as a nation we have not yet come up with sensible gun control. That we are allowing the NRA to hold such sway over us that we have given up freedoms we are not aware we have given up.
We are no longer free, we are no longer safe, and we are no longer the land of the free and the home of the brave. We have become a country of cowards, we are afraid to stand up against the NRA; we have allowed them to take our freedoms away. The freedom to be safe in our day-to-day activities is a freedom the NRA has taken away from us.
I want people to be free from being gun-downed in a midnight showing of Batman, a college or high school class, or worship services in a Sikh Temple.
I am ready to give up my freedom to bear an assault rifle, so I can gain a freedom back that I lost so long ago, the freedom to be safe to live my life and to exercise all of my freedoms that are mine. I am ready to stand up to the NRA and push for sensible gun control are you?
I want to be free to exercise my freedoms, anywhere I want and at any time I choose.
