What is this kamikaze compulsion that has driven right-wingers to acts of murder-suicide ever since modern politics first evolved out of the feudal muck?  Why do they fling themselves and their nations into wars of extermination that ultimately lead to their own destruction?  Why do they eviscerate the economic might of societies they control by waging pogroms and holocausts on minorities who don't present any real threat to them?  Why do they undermine the sociopolitical foundations of their religion by making it an instrument of terror and chaos to believers and non-believers alike?  What is this psychotic imperative that tells them once they have achieved wealth and power, the only thing remaining is to use that wealth and power to destroy civilization rather than pass on a better world to their children?  Where does the evil come from?

In 1945, in a bunker beneath Berlin, as the Allied bombs fell and the Red Army approached, Magda Goebbels - wife of the notorious Nazi propagandist - gathered her six children and methodically murdered them one-by-one, forcing cyanide capsules into their mouths.  In all the horrors the Nazis had inflicted on others, this final evil was perhaps the most emblematic of them and of the right-wing mentality in general: They were not merely animals preying on others, but minds of such total darkness and destruction that they would rather execute their own families and then commit suicide than live deprived of victims.

Josef Goebbels could have easily spirited his children away to some neutral country well before this, or surrendered to the Western Allies to avoid the Soviet vengeance, but to him and his wife, the lives of their children would be worthless if they failed to inherit both the will to destroy and the power to carry it out.  Thus we see that right-wingers don't really consider their children to be people or carriers of cultural tradition, but rather simply as hosts for the continuation of immortal violence - the active, living denial of life that accompanies it like a photographic negative.

At the bottom of it, they hate all of humanity more than they love even the people closest to them, and reveal themselves for what they are: Miscreants with deformed souls who desperately want to die, but can't bring themselves to do it while others survive to witness their disgrace.  I sometimes wonder if the entirety of Nazi Germany didn't boil down ultimately to the murder-suicidal revenge of some bitter asshole who got rejected from an art school - a run-of-the-mill spree-killing inflated to continental scale.

Of course, not all right-wingers go that far - in fact, very few are competent or ballsy enough in their hatred to ever go so far as to face a choice between abandoning hate or dying through their own actions.  Most of them sit in the sullen gloom of their embittered cowardice, wishing destruction on others they don't dare to inflict because they are plankton in an ocean of fear.  Instead, they passively hope and pray for humanity to come to a sticky end - a complete inversion of the ordinary human's wishes to see a better future for their children, their nations, and their world.  When some monster appears in their midst promising endless cataclysm, they become enlivened - their faces blush with glee hearing some enthroned demon promise war, purification, and subjugation.

Whether it's Nazis, al Qaeda suicide bombers, or conservative spree-killers who undertake mass-murder in full knowledge they'll probably be among the dead, the core shadow-people who actually commit the crimes are just the tiniest crown on a huge pyramid of psychotic cowards who support them politically and materially.  They view these person-shaped holes in space as something admirable - something to aspire to, ennoble, and place in positions of authority.  The minority of their selves that remains human and interested in making life better, they consider impure and sinful - something to be despised and suppressed: The "weakness" of being alive.  Thus they seek people who are more purely devoid of such "flaws" to lead them to their apotheosis - the sexualized act of violence in which all their passions are unleashed in kamikaze attack against all life.

It's the Rapture of the psychopath - to break down all existence, disrupt all order, down, down, all the way down until nothing remains but primordial Chaos: A heat-death entropic universe where life and change are finally impossible, and all information has been reduced beneath the threshold of noise.  Right-wing politics at its deepest roots is not merely indifferent to life, and not even merely hostile to life - it is Anti-Life: The pure, total inversion of life into a horrific mockery of itself that annihilates existence.  They don't fetishize the past because they actually want to live in it - they want to turn back the clock because backwards time is the only way the universe could reflect their backwards morality.  Even breaking down civilization isn't enough for them, because future generations could always just come back from any Dark Age stronger and smarter than before.

No - they want nothing less than planet Earth to be as sterile and silent as the Moon: The only sure guarantee that their enemy Life could not simply move around the obstacles they present, as it has a tendency to do.  They wish to cleanse the cosmos of the blasphemy of consciousness - that merciless inner eye that looks at them and sees what worthless pigs they are, desecrating their sacred hatred with the knowledge of what it really is: Nothing.  A vacuum.  They're meat puppets with nothing inside who want there to be nothing outside either.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

    •  The reason Goebbels killed himself and his family (0+ / 0-)

are likely a bit more complex than:

Josef Goebbels could have easily spirited his children away to some neutral country well before this, or surrendered to the Western Allies to avoid the Soviet vengeance, but to him and his wife, the lives of their children would be worthless if they failed to inherit both the will to destroy and the power to carry it out.  Thus we see that right-wingers don't really consider their children to be people or carriers of cultural tradition, but rather simply as hosts for the continuation of immortal violence - the active, living denial of life that accompanies it like a photographic negative.
I'm not sure where you came up with that, but he was a true believer in the Nazi party with Hitler at the head. As for his children, it's also possible that he was afraid of how the Russians might treat his children. There are versions of his children's death that include morphine injections prior to the administering of cyanide to make their death more humane.
Later on 1 May, Vice-Admiral Hans-Erich Voss saw Goebbels for the last time: "Before the breakout [from the bunker] began, about ten generals and officers, including myself, went down individually to Goebbels's shelter to say goodbye. While saying goodbye I asked Goebbels to join us. But he replied:  'The captain must not leave his sinking ship. I have thought about it all and decided to stay here. I have nowhere to go because with little children I will not be able to make it'."

      Vinogradov, Hitler's Death, p 156

You start with a premise that is of your own making to make your point about the right, but your premise is likely flawed. If Goebbels cared about his children, what then of your conclusion:
Nothing.  A vacuum.  They're meat puppets with nothing inside who want there to be nothing outside either.

  •  Tea Partiers see UN plot to take over America, (6+ / 0-)

    wrote Farah Stockman yesterday.

    An excerpt:

Tea Party activists have always raised their fist against the pesky intrusions of the federal government. But these days, they are turning their eyes toward a far more insidious threat: the United Nations.

If you weren’t aware of this looming danger, let me explain: Two weeks ago, activists helped derail a UN treaty to regulate international weapons transfers, based on rumors that it threatens gun ownership in the United States.

Never mind that the treaty focused solely on the international sale of tanks, missiles, and other military-style weaponry, which the United States already heavily regulates.

Never mind that its purpose was to ensure that such weapons, produced in Russia and China, don’t go to terrorists and genocide perpetrators.

Tea Party activists can read between the lines — even lines that aren’t there.

Every international agreement is seen as a threat to US sovereignty.

“The UN Arms Trade Treaty should alarm any liberty-loving citizen,” wrote KrisAnne Hall, a blogger for Tea Party Nation.

It’s not just that treaty that the Tea Party fears. Every international agreement is seen as a threat to US sovereignty.

spot on. Having lived through the utter chaos that was Colombia in the mid 1980's with right wing death squads roaming the countryside killing teachers and labor leaders, left wing guerrilla groups taking over government buildings and killing police, powerful narcos killing government officials, police and terrorizing ordinary citizens, I wonder if the Tea Party is aware that when they advocate violence against the president or Democrats they are opening up a Pandora's Box of violence mixed with that unique elixir of home grown, good 'ol made in the U.S. of A.  racial hatred. For years now I have had this dread and I dismissed it as my own phobia but you have put my feelings into words.
