What happens if you're a failed Senate candidate with gobs of money to burn? You keep running for office, of course. That's what the odious Linda McMahon is doing in Connecticut. After being whomped by Sen. Richard Blumenthal in 2010, a race she sunk more than
$40 million of her own fortune into, she's taking another stab at it.
Despite the fact that she's not out of her primary yet, she's focusing her attacks on her likely Democratic opponent in the general, Rep. Chris Murphy, with an ad attacking him for his jobs plan. Here's the ad.
This is a TV ad, not just a web ad, and it's an expensive one. As David Nir
wrote, it's on broadcast TV. In the New York City market. On NBC. During the Olympics. That's some spendy airtime. But, as in 2010, McMahon has money to burn, thanks to her ill-found fortune from being CEO of the World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. To be exact,
$12.4 million so far this cycle, and $4.25 million in July alone.
Luckily, we've got Chris Murphy running, and she and all her millions can be defeated, again. The latest head-to-head polling of these likely general election opponents gives Murphy a solid lead. But to keep it, he's going to need to try to combat her millions.
We can't raise Linda McMahon's kind of money, but that shouldn't stop us from trying, a few dollars at a time.
Send Chris Murphy $3 on ActBlue.
