Most, if not all, readers of this site are familiar with the story of Mitt Romney's assault on a fellow prep school student due to Romney not approving of that student's style of hair and perceived sexual orientation; I think the story was first reported in the Washington Post in early May of this year. In case anyone missed it, the report is still available online:

Mitt Romney's Prep School Classmates Recall Pranks, But Also Troubling Incidents

While Romney's schoolmates remembered this instance of his bullying--assault, really-- quite clearly, Mr. Romney did not remember the incident, although if anybody was hurt or offended by this "prank" that he couldn't possibly recall he would "obviously apologize for that".

In my opionion, this incident and others like it need to stay alive in the public mind in the final few months before the election, and music is an excellent way to keep these stories fresh. Let's journey below the Kos croissant for one rather brilliant attempt to do just that.

Romney Mitt, The Demon Barber of Wall Street

Satire is courtesy Roy Zimmerman, who co-wrote these lyrics with wife Melanie Harby. The tune is of course Stephen Sondheim, from Sweeny Todd. Roy and Melanie have been touring the country, determined to visit all 50 states in the run up to the November election. They've dubbed it their "Vote Republican 50.0 Tour", and while traveling are recording a verse for each state that pretty much skewers the GOP in a state-specific manner.

Mr. Zimmerman displays some extraordinary talent and I find this video hilarious but also chilling. It is all too easy to point and laugh at Romney and the Republicans, but as we all know, the guy is dangerous and there may just be enough of our fellow citizens who don't get that that he could conceivably be elected.

Here are the lyrics for the video impaired:

Attend the tale of Romney, Mitt
Athough he doesn't remember it
He clipped a classmate one afternoon
Like some kind of barbarous Vidal Sassoon

Then sauntered off to English Lit
Did Romney, Mitt
The Demon Barber of Wall Street

He was the life of Sevens Hall
And quite the cut-up as we recall
His pranks were funny to everyone
Who was handsome and rich and a governor's son

That's Romney
That's Romney, Mitt
The Demon Barber of Wall Street

Swing your scissors high, Romney
Try to make him cry
Always choose a victim who's the Little Guy

His favorite style, the Romney crop
Cuts everything but the very top
The one percent of the one percent
When he said "the people" well, that's what he meant

Like Robin Hood, 'cept the opposite
That's Romney, Mitt
The Demon Barber of Wall Street

Benefits for the poor he cuts
Regulations galore he cuts
Unions and jobs, and safety nets
There is no cut that Mitt Romney regrets

Tax on capital gain he cuts
Deals for buddies at Bain he cuts
Romney will slash, Romney will sever
But will he ever apologize - not really

Attend the tale of Romney, Mitt
The bully in the bully pulpit
He's got your back like Norman Bates
And he'd love to talk but the limo awaits

For Romney, for Romney, Mitt
The Demon Barber of Wall...Street

When you have some time, check out Roy Zimmerman's site and show him some love. He is a unique talent.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
