when we have our legislators acting to deny us our voice on issues critical to our very health and existence? A little known provision buried in Section 708 of the recently passed FDA Safety and Innovation Act (S. 3187) authorizes the government to seize and destroy medications that Americans safely import from Canada and other countries because they can’t afford the high cost of medications in the U.S.
When RxRights, a non-partisan consumer coalition concerned with the real threat of Americans losing access to affordable medication, made it known that they wanted to address the conference committee members they were stonewalled. Then, as if out of thin air, on June 19th, a new bill appeared, authors unknown and un-named. And with a wink and a nod to big pharma Section 708 was secretly added. Acting like a thief in the night they sought to steal our voices and our very health!
Over a million Americans rely on the medications that they have safely imported for years from Canada and other countries. Many simply can’t afford their medications otherwise. Once again the vulnerable are kicked to the curb by our crony capitalist government as it seeks to represent the powerful, monied interests and neglect its responsibility to serve its citizens.
If you are as angry and fed up as I am help me reclaim our voice. Join me in signing the White House petition that asks President Obama to delay the rule making process for the implementation of this unjust regulation. Promote the petition to others. Unite with one voice that will be heard from the rooftops!
Thank you!
