And that's saying something.
As tweet linked via David Shuster.
Charles P. Pierce calls it out and out racist. He titled it, "Mitt Romney is Stuck in the Racist Sewer of Our Politics." Excerpt: "There is nothing for it now but than to say, flat-out, that Willard Romney has decided that the only way he can become president is to become a racist and to appeal to the racist base of his party. This is the second ad in as many weeks centered on the general theme of The Negro President Wants To Give Your Money To The Black People Like Him....the dogwhistles are now air-raid sirens, and that the Republicans are no longer even trying hard to camouflage what they're actually saying. It's getting so bad, even NBC News might have noticed - just barely.
Dubious claim behind Romney welfare attackExcept that y'know that's not what's happening.
The latest attack launched by Mitt Romney involves an assertion that President Obama has decided to "gut" popular welfare reforms instituted in the 1990s, transforming the public assistance program into a giveaway for the impoverished.
"By violating this fundamental piece of the block grant, you've now essentially made this into a blank check from the federal government to the states, with no work requirement at all," said Jonathan Burks, the Romney campaign's deputy policy director.
“The Obama administration, working with the Republican governors of states like Nevada and Utah, is giving states additional flexibility only if they move more people from welfare to work – not fewer," said spokeswoman Lis Smith, adding that Romney, as governor, "petitioned the federal government for waivers that would have let people stay on welfare for an indefinite period, ending welfare reform as we know it."And of course, just like with RomneyCare, this is a level of flexibility that Romney himself asked for when he was Governor of Massachusetts
So not only is the claim false, again, it's something that Romney used to support.
It seems like Romney/Ryan has become the ALL LIE-ALL THE TIME Campaign. I guess they hope that the various voter suppression efforts in swings states are going to Save their Bacon in November?
I wouldn't count on it.
