I get it, I really do, the economy effects folks way of life, there ability to live and retire and provide. I am not naive enough to think that the election will be primarily driven by the economy. And yes it is very important. I also get that this is how politics is played and that these are the issues that the Dems need to focus on to WIN.
But honestly, I personally don't care about the Ryan Medicare plan and what it does or does not do. I don't care about how the Republicans want to provide more tax benefits to the rich or how corporate interests control.
All I need to know is how insanely anti-women the Republicans are to know I will NEVER vote for them in them in their current form.
All I need to know is that anti-LGBT rhetoric by the Republicans gets people killed, often by their own hand, by reducing them to second-class or even worse citizens.
All I need to know is that the Republican party is ruled by Christian fundamentalism that all but would institute a Christian version of Sharia law if given the chance.
All I need to know is that there is an consistent undercurrent of racism in everything they do.
I do not need to know the minutiae of the Ryan plan or Obama's plan to know that the Republicans are unfit to move this country forward.
Nothing should trump basic human d rights and decency. Nothing should trump a person's ability to live their life free of hate or persecution especially when it is state-sponsored.
Yes, I know Bill Clinton famously said "It's the economy, Stupid" and in politics, sadly it is. But let us not forget, the fine print of competing economic visions will never, in my mind, trump basic civil rights and respect for all Americans.
