Americans fought and died for the right to vote. Now every headline in the papers says that the republicans are attempting to roll back the clock.  This is a federal issue.
This is one of the largest pushbacks against individual rights we have seen in our
lifetimes.  The new voter laws all pertain to young people, seniors and minorities..the
very groups you are fighting to help.

Your silence is haunting. Your silence is a terrible moment for those who will lose
their right to vote. How can you quietly stand by and let the cheats in those states
get away with this?  It's time for a major speech. A major announcement to america
that what is going on will not be tolerated.  This is just too huge and far reaching an
issue for you to remain on the sidelines and not fight for voter's rights in america.
Millions of americans have fought and died for this right.  This is a basic right
to express a voice on the future of America.
Will you be forever silent? Or will you take a stand against what is happening while
we all sit and watch in disgust?
Lead.  This is important!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

    What are your proposals?
I, too, think that the Democratic Party has not been as proactive as I would have expected them to be.
The DOJ sued Florida over its voter purge but it seems to be the ACLU which is leading the charge in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

The President needs to use his bully pulpit NOW!

Much as he did in '08 with his historic "race speech,' he needs to book some prime TV time and call out the Republicans on this obvious attempt to disefranchise millions of American voters.

There are two types of Republicans: millionaires and suckers.

The only thing you seem to be able to notice are presidential speeches? The justice department is doing quite a lot to counter voter suppression - and they are actually the ones who need to be active. They had some success in that, and if you would actually study the problem in question, you would know that. A speech will not change a single paragraph of a voter suppression law!

Do you really think, Obama does not know that suppressing e.g. black voters will cost him votes?? Did you stop to think what your implications are about Obamas mental status? And that of his re-election team? They needed your diary to be made attentive to voter suppression?

He who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.

    •  waiting for other's action means inaction (0+ / 0-)

why wait. This is the most important issue in this election.
Many many people know nothing about this. The high information voters know but the common people...students/minorities/seniors/thos who don't read huff post or daily kos/...scream from the rooftops/scream that this is setting us back 60 years....anything to get public opinion involved because now the rethugs are taking advantage of noone paying attention to this and a speech about discriminattion at the voting booths will resonate with people everywhere...right now we let the
lawyers handle it...no way...if we do that we waste precious time in fighting voter suppression.  The justice
department/aclu...those wheels move slow and can
be delayed....lets make this a huge huge issue.
