Police stories can be funny, scary, and intriguing.  I was speaking with a person that was telling one of his many stories and this was about his first day on the job.  The call was to a seedy motel.  He worked in a small city in the south it was the early 70's.  When they arrived they had to break in to the room.  The motel owner needed to enter a room that was locked with no answer for 2 days. With the police there he opened the door and they found a woman in her 30's with a bottle of vodka next to her all covered in blood.  She was lying on the bed, legs open all bloody no clothes on from the waist down. He said there was a pool of he didn't know what between her legs and on the bed.

Since this was his first call (as I had mentioned) he watched and wrote it up. He never quite knew what had happened with her. I said "what did you think that was?"  He said, "I never knew" and they gave it over to another so he didn't find out.  He said "she was drinking and we turned it over".  I said, that woman did a "Self Abortion".  She used the small amount of vodka, and the long stem on the bottle to achieve it.  He was shocked and really didn't get it.  Here it was 30 years later and he just figured it out because I told him.

I explained, look this is what happens when women become desperate and are not thinking clearly but know they need an abortion.  If abortion becomes illegal, unavailable or just too difficult to find or afford, it becomes the "dark ages" for women.  Then there will be "places" that can do it, but it's unsanitary and very dangerous. Abortion is a very difficult and desperate choice but it still needs to be available.

All the "should know betters" and "should use protection" stuff is not solid reasoning.  In life things happen and this choice MUST BE PROTECTED!!

He was never pro-choice until that moment.  I write this because most people now a days don't remember the "no choice" time.

We have to take a look at what is happening now in our government.  A SERIOUS one. If this Congress gets stronger and they take the Senate and (gawd-forbid) the Presidency we could return to this.  The zealots will just say "she deserved to die, because she was going to kill the baby".  See the problem is they both die.

People must vote and have the choice to choose. It is a dark time but still a better choice than the ones that become available when it becomes illegal.  I never thought it could happen but I am watching us go back in time.

Let's not.  Let's not elect a crew that is ready to do this.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
