Yep, you knew this was bound to happen:
Romney 'very proud' of Mass. health care law
Mitt Romney is embracing his Massachusetts health care law in response to President Barack Obama’s attacks that Republicans have declared a ‘war on women.’
“I’m the guy who was able to get all the health care for all the women and men for my state,” Romney said in an interview aired on 'Fox News Sunday.' “They were talking about it at the federal level. We actually did something and we did it without cutting Medicare and without raising taxes.”
OK, before your eyes roll too far to the back of your head and your brains explode, let's look at this rationally. Take a look at that last statement, and then the next paragraph:
Romney added that he was “very proud” of his signature on the 2006 law when he was governor of Massachusetts, while charging that Obama would cut more than $700 million from Medicare to pay for the Affordable Care Act.
Bingo...
that's his new tactic.
He's finally realized that he can't escape the "Father of Obamacare" label, so he's trying to do a little jujitsu here. The NEW message is, essentially: "Yes, Obama copied my plan, but I did it without 'cutting' medicare or raising 'taxes'."
Of course, both of these claims are utter bullshit. The ACA doesn't "cut" Medicare, and the "taxes" in the ACA are identical to the "fees/penalties" that Romneycare mandates in everything but name only.
The "taxes vs. fees" bit should be fairly easy to shoot down, since that's still a semantic argument. The bigger question is whether people fall for the "cut" $700 billion bullshit.
Anyway, that's the latest angle they're gonna try to play. Look for this new "mutated" Romneycare talking point to be spouted by every GOP hack on the planet starting today.
Update: Here's the video in all it's Etch-a-Sketchy® Glory...
