I'm not sure how this is going to sound, but seeing that black man dissing President Obama on that Citizens United TV commercial really pisses me off.
Sure, only he's one of four or five people who say they regret voting for the President in 2008. The others are all white women -- no surprise they didn't use any white males in this spot. I guess they're targeting women and blacks. But for some reason hearing the black guy bad-mouth the President really bothers me because unless he's one of the 1% there's no legitimate reason I can think of why he should vote Republican.
The cynic in me envisions a smoke-filled, post-production room full of them previewing the spot grinning like Chesire cats when the black guy says he's disappointed in the and that he bought into the whole "Hope and Change" thing, but now feels that the President is a failure. Can't you hear the good ol' boy crew laughing out loud: "You tell them boy. We got one of them to say he isn't voting for Obama again. That will hurt Obama and Michelle right where it hurts! We've got to find more good Negroes like him. Hey, what's Ward Connerly doing these days?"
Yeah sure, the President didn't completely satisfy any of us, even his ardent supporters like me...but I'd never participate in some ad paid for by a group of billionaires seeking to remove a President seeking to make tax equality the law of the land. This brother comes across like a lackey...can't stand
I know, every black person in America doesn't support the President and didn't vote for him. I know, every citizen has the right to voice his or her opinion on the upcoming election, but this gets to me...and it plays over and over and over. I suppose this brother's disillusionment with the President will lead him to voting for Mitt Romney in November. I just can't imagine anybody black, or poor, or female, or Muslim or damn near anything being that disillusioned.
That fellow just personifies everything that frustrates and angers me about the American electorate. I don't know, but seeing a black guy participate in BS like that angers me far more than seeing a white guy do it. Is that racist? I hope not, but it's how I feel.
