Oh my freaking Lord -- the End Times have arrived. Warner Brothers is gonna remove the rebel flag that hitherto has graced the top of the General Lee, the Dodge Charger driven around the south (well, at least south California) by those lovable scofflaws, Bo and Luke Duke. From screencrush.com:
The news has reportedly been floating around the hobby community over the past few days as ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ collectors became aware of a new regulation. A collector on HobbyTalk.com was told by a representative at ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ toy company Tomy:
Starting January 1, 2013 all Dukes of Hazzard General Lee vehicles will not be allowed to be produced with the Confederate Flag on the top of the vehicle.
According to the toy rep, the word came directly from Warner Bros. who no longer wants to endorse an item that has the Confederate flag printed on it.
And over at Free Republic there was
wailing and gnashing of teeth. Some sample comments:
-- Thank you President Obama, for moving us beyond race and division!
-- Didn’t the horn play Dixie? Is that gone yet? If not, it will be as soon as the PC-ers can get that removed, too.
-- You might as well just demand that all future General Lee’s be compressed into blocks of metal. The Confederate Flag is as much a part of General Lee as the make and model of car itself. PC idiots.
Personally, I blame the Kenyan Anti-Colonialist for this latest outrage!
BTW, here's proof that Johnny Cash could sing anything and make it sound good:
