This explanation was amazing in its simple insight, about why they are lying all the time:
Republicans have a fundamental problem, which explains why they have to lie so much.
They want to return us to the same policies of Bush (also called Exceptionalism).
But they can't say that, since it was those Bush policies which caused our economic mess in the first place.
So instead, the basic truth Republicans they have sell is basically a lie, that It's ALL Obama's fault.
So they have to lie, and lie, and lie. They will have to keep doing this to Election Day.
Dems shouldn't be going after each lie, trying to disprove each and every one;
Instead Dems should start asking: Why to they have to Lie in the first place?
That, roughly put, was the explanation for all the GOP lying in this Election cycle, as explain by Prof. David Coates, from Wake Forest University, on the MHP Show.
Thank you Professor! Being a student of logic and philosophy, and an dedicated progressive Dem -- that explanation just made my day.
A few parting words from Professor Coates:
If the Republicans actually told the truth:
that the Mess were in was created by the Bush Policies we are now proposing to re-introduce, well it wouldn't go down well in Peoria.
Don't pursue every lie, let the fact-checkers do that -- instead ask Why do they have to Lie in the first place?
Or in my very rusty
logical syllogism:
not A + not B <> ALL C
Translated:
Our policies are Not like the Bush policies + There was No flawed Bush Presidency
Therefore: It's ALL Obama's fault -- uhmm ... NOT!
Their lying Conclusions
do not follow,
especially when premises A and B, are not even allowed in as "your givens" --
ie. your "basic truths," which usually are just assumed to be "self-evident."
Your axiomatic premises matter -- the basic truths you plan to adhere to -- in any logical, rational world view, that is.
Of course few people, especially those in the Media, ever accuse the Republicans of having one of those!
