More Tagging tips:
A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?
Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.
If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office.
CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.
Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.
Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary:
Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House.
If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state
Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries
that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

long before we hear that women and people who don't own real property will be purged from the voter roles and the practice of medicine will be open to anyone who wants to do it.
Seriously, some rep in Virginia is now saying that providing people with government-funded student loans is Naziism. No joke.
by helfenburg on Fri Sep 07, 2012 at 07:23:10 AM PDT
Those are exactly the people being purged. Married women (name changed, so it's different from the one on your birth certificate), and people too poor to own a car (sorry, no state issued photo driver's license).

The comment in question was uttered by Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R, MD) from the Eastern Shore, not Virginia. Not that some Republican Congressmen from Virginia aren't capable of such hogwash, but not this time.

mostly enlightened state of Maryland. Given the content of his diatribe, I immediately tried to pass him off to Virginia, home of McDonnell, Ken Cucinelli and Eric Cantor! But no, we have it right here in River City.

Rockin Roscoe the Octogenarian is from western Maryland in the 6th District.
Here on the Eastern Shore, we have the Fabulous Andy Harris, T-bagger, Carpetbagger, Sandbagger and ex-state senator.
Members of his own party called him "Dr. No" -- he's basically been attached to Johns Hopkins for his entire life -- and to hear them tell it, they were relieved to see him leave the General Assembly.

is the reason the rebound has taken longer because the voters threw the dems out of the house, if there was a dem controlled house more programs would have passed and the recovery would be more sustained rather then the slow recovery hampered by the gop's obstructionism, to let the gop benefit from this negative position is to join with the forces that hate the american dream and only have a minority of the population as their priority, to the gop the few take precedence over the many.

My slogan above needs a pithy cartoon?
Millions of our taxes "saved" the Olympics circus.
Millions of our taxes saved Bain bucks for Mitt bailout.
Millions of our taxes are still replacing payment (that safety net thingy) to old folks whose retirement trust funds were loopholed into Bain pockets.
I'm tired of paying Mitt's bills.
I know not all Republicans are named Mitt -- but they do all keep putting their mitts where they don't belong.

Frankly, I found this weakly written. There's plenty of legislative stuff that could have been used as examples of how far we've come, but the teeth thing? No.
The Founders would have happily used modern dental tech. But they would have seen no reason to give women the vote.

in the days that the regressives long for - there WERE no modern options like today.
regressives only want to pick and choose the things to reverse and they glorify what was hardly a great time when compared to today.

proudly of being an originalist re. the Constitution. I thought that was just hilarious. Back in those days he probably would have been considered 3/5ths of a person, might have been owned by Mitt Romney, couldn't have voted because he wouldn't haved owned land and wasn't even considered a citizen.
He certainly would not have been able to join the Army or to achieve the rank of Colonel. And would never have been allowed to run for the office of Representative in the House: which is considered "the peoples' House"because no one represented his people at all.
His people were only counted in the census, hence the 3/5th notation, for the purpose of assigning the number of representatives which the slave states could get into the actual Federal Government.
What a dope.
