So, it's Friday. The end of the 1st week of September.

Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!

If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.

We are still having triple digit weather.

But you know fall is well underway in spite of the heat - the sunrises are finally getting more colorful.  They are also getting later in the day and soon, the sun will be rising after my first break of the day is over. That means I'll be recycling old sunrise photos or sharing other photos.

You must add at least one tag to this diary before publishing it.

Add keywords that describe this diary. Separate multiple keywords with commas.
Tagging tips - Search For Tags - Browse For Tags

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary?
(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

and humid, so climate change has meant east coast-ish weather here, which I did NOT sign up for.  However, the most recent set of deadline writing is DONE, so now more course prep and the paper I'm presenting on the 28th.

Good morning and good night, as always.

Some of the best sunsets I ever saw, I saw while visiting OK.  The sky there is just so gorgeous....

I don't think we were ever awake in time to see sunrises, though.

the big, last-second present arrived in time (today, Thurs); and the goodies for tomorrow (Fri) arrived last week...

we've been saving calories all month, 8-)!!
breakfast today was bacon & pancakes (some bacon-pancakes)
watched (for sorta-birthday-movie) a Doctor Who recently acquired from Costco (Face of Evil), so we could stay home for the delivery; and also the first episode of the new season, Asylum of the Daleks, pretty fair
dinner was halibut fish-n-chips, home-made (even if the halibut was ca. $23/#!! halibut is teh bomb!)
and a mix yellow sheet cake, home-made vanilla frosting
and in-between cooking, teh Dadster got all 8 bookcase doors completely Danish-Oiled! they're off-gassing in the garage for a couple of days, but then we'll be able to bring them in and see how different the color is!!!

plan for tomorrow is yoghurt biscuits & sausage for breakfast,
    ParaNorman for the joint movie
steak & roast potatoes & probably corn on the cob for dinner
not sure what for birthday cake, teh kiddo isn't being too enthusiastic about sharing his cake, 8-)

and the plan for Saturday is -- Fall Rug Washing on the driveway! whee!! but that should get them dry by Monday, and then we'd be more-or-less free to do a real-estate-hunting run to BC before Fall closes in any more!

  •  I had an inspiring week of watching the DNC, and (4+ / 0-)

I hope everyone here was equally inspired!

I had a bit of personal jolt on Wedns. night when i was watching the States roll-call, and I actually recognized one of the delegates who delivered the vote. It was the lady who delivered the votes for the Alaska delegation, and I had a family connection with her (I was married to her husband's son, long story, marriage etc long gone) many years ago. First I recognized the name, then the face. She was given the honor of delivering the delegation's vote because, at 91, she was the oldest delegate.

I have to say, she looked fantastic for 91 years of old. And other than that flash from the past, I have no more to say. It's just one of those things, I guess, that prove what a small world it is.

The arthritis index is climbing and with it, my discomfort level.  I have slept a total of perhaps two hours.  The alarm will go off in and hour and a half, at which time I'll be able to sleep just fine, of course.  Oh well, I can nap later, maybe... or not.

A lot of that will depend on what the Jesus guy at the senior center has to say about the convention.  Despite his lack of enthusiasm after the GOP debacle, he was itching for a fight last Friday.  I refused to let him bait me because I don't want to get kicked out for ripping his face off.  :-)  Maybe I'll be lucky and he won't have watched it...

we're going to Branson.  We'll be close to you Noddy.  We decided we just didn't want to spend 6 days out of two weeks driving, so bye bye lobster.
It's raining in Chicagoland.  Have a great day everyone.

I am a work in progress. Still.

Big Kitty, who sleeps on my head, wakes up a little later (to walk on my bladder) each morning.

He purrs and paces until I get up enough to open the door to the porch where the food and pet door are. The kitties love the summer arrangement; in the winter food and boxes are in the house, and exiting the building only happens on sunny days! (Although they still want me to open the door into summer each day to check!)

We had three trees down across the trails at Dogwood yesterday.  They were already dead, but I wonder if it was soil creep or what.  We may need to evaluate trees near trails and remove the dead ones.

    They're such good habitat, though.
