I am amazed that no one is approaching the Ryan Medicare plan this way. I am 59 years old, so I'm OK according to their plan, (except that their plan will bankrupt Medicare in 2016, before I am eligible for it). Most of all, I am angry that their plan gets rid of Medicare for my children. Most seniors are also parents, and they should be reminded that the idea is to make life better for our kids, not take away the benefits that this country has promised them. We are the only advanced country without universal health care, and the repugs think it's too much. How much will insurance cost my son when he turns 80, if he makes it. How much does the average 45-50 year old think private insurance will cost them when they turn 80, not 65, and how much do they think the gov't will contribute to the price. What sane insurance company would provide insurance to anyone 80 or older.
The fact that no one has discussed the potential price and availability of private insurance as people reach more advanced ages is a significant omission from the argument against plans to privatize or voucherize Medicare.
